The Message Clients:

The Message Clients become active if something changes - a job or queue state. There are three message clients:

• The X message client. It shows up in an X window with the usual features like scroll bar and a changing icon if something has happened.

• The ASCII message client. It can be used wherever X is not available.

• The programmable message client. It calls a program/script provided by the system integrator. There the information can be filtered and/or passed to other applications.
