ForReview 2.3 Enables Enterprise-Wide Document Review and Mark-Up

Laguna Hills, CA (January 5, 1995). Allegria Software (formally known as ATC) today announced ForReview 2.3, the latest member of its technology leading family of document review and mark-up software. Designed to meet the needs of users throughout the enterprise, ForReview 2.3 adds significant new user interface and file handling capabilities in addition to extending ForReview's powerful set of graphics and document mark-up features.

According to Robert Bruns, Allegria's President, "We recognize that many users in today's large organizations need to have access and input to engineering documentation but they don't have time to learn the intricacies of a CAD system. With ForReview 2.3 we have built an intuitive, feature-rich, bridge between CAD documents and Windows users throughout the enterprise."

A key new aspect of ForReview 2.3 is the use of "Note Objects" to simplify user mark-up of documents. A Note Object acts like a virtual "post-it" note that makes it easy for a user of any sophistication level to append their comments to an existing document. The user can select and place a Note Object anywhere on the viewed document using a simple point and click operation from ForReview's toolbox. The Note Object automatically opens a dialog for the user's comments while at the same time creating all of the appropriate references to track the Note Object with regard to its creator, original document, viewing layer, etc. In addition, the Note Object can provide a link to another drawing or document which can act as a "hot link" feature. To optimize subsequent usage of multiple reviewers' comments, ForReview also provides a "Notes Catalog" for quick and easy review of all the Note Objects relating to a document.

ForReview 2.3 also includes significant new file handling capabilities that simplify integration of engineering document mark-ups with the whole range of office productivity applications typically used throughout a large organization. A Document Control Dialog allows easy manipulation and use of data from word processing, spreadsheet, database and archive formats. For instance, a user could easily access a specifications document, search for specific text strings, copy data and paste it into a Note Object appended to a drawing under review. ForReview 2.3 supports over 50 document and drawing formats including, DXF, DWG, HPGL, CGM, TIFF, JPEG, MS Word, Excel and D-Base.

In addition to its new enterprise user features, ForReview 2.3 continues Allegria's market leadership in graphics technology for viewing and red-lining. A rich set of mark-up options, including text, circles, ellipses, polylines, freehand objects, etc., can be easily created and individually placed, sized, rotated and moved anywhere within the document being viewed. Multiple views of a document can be displayed simultaneously and file groupings can easily be set up to track multiple related documents, multiple reviewers comments and/or multiple layers of a specific document.

Allegria Software is a recognized leader in industry-standard graphics toolkit software critical to the development of high performance graphics applications. Allegria's ForWare family of integrated Engineering Drawing Management applications are designed to enhance the performance of enterprise- wide Product Document Management systems.
