Release of ForReview 4.0 Offers Checking and Direct Web Access; Increases Performance Laguna Hills, CA. June 16, 1998. Allegria Software Inc. is redefining view and markup software with the immediate availability of its industry-leading ForReview software for Windows 95 and NT. ForReview 4.0 sets a new standard by including ECO reviewing (otherwise known as "checking"), and direct access to the Internet without browsers. ForReview now makes it easy for checkers to validate proper changes made to a design from one revision to the next by offering a complement of review features such as bookmarks, side-by-side compare, and enhanced overlay and compare facilities. This checking paradigm is further supported by ForReview's tight integration with leading EDM/PDM products. Revision checking within an EDM is easily accomplished by selecting two documents from the vault and clicking on the compare function in ForReview. The two documents automatically check out of the vault and appear side-by-side—ready for comparison. According to Allegria President Robert Bruns, "This new version of ForReview extends the utility of a view and markup product to include ECO checking. It's one more step in making view and markup an integral part of the engineering life cycle process." New Key Features in ForReview 4.0 Include:
Improved bookmarks, side-by side compare: ForReview now simplifies the process of checking revisions or changes. Compares can be performed on multi-page files or files with multiple views, e.g. AutoCAD. By using bookmarks in conjunction with markups, a user can easily step through all markup objects and see if the new revision contains the suggested changes. Product performance increased: ForReview 4.0 is fast. Performance has increased in all areas of the product including start up. File viewing is twice as fast as the previous version of ForReview, and more so for certain file formats. Office 97 support: ForReview now supports Office 97 documents as well as Office 95. Improved postscript and PDF support: Postscript support in ForReview 4.0 has been considerably improved. Multiple page postscript files can now be viewed and marked up. Direct Internet access: A user can now open files, load markups or overlay files directly from ForReview by specifying a URL address (HTTP or FTP). No browser is necessary—only a desktop Internet connection. Similarly, graphical files can be overlaid and compared directly from the Internet. Moreover, ForReview's API and command line now supports URL and UNC filenames. Print preview: A print preview function is now provided. It displays the current drawing as it will appear when printed. Drag and drop markup files: Users in a file browser can now drag and drop markup files onto an open drawing. Scale to gray for raster files: ForReview provides a scale to gray feature to increase the viewability of raster data for monochrome raster files that have been scanned in a little too dark. Multiple file selection from the File Open dialog: It is now possible to select multiple files and load them all with one single click of the OPEN button in the File menu. ME/MI 10/30 support: ForReview can now view Model Interface (ME/MI 10/30) file formats. PDM integrations have also be updated with ForReview 4.0, including Documentum, DOCS Open and Matrix, proving that this release continues to satisfy almost any user requirement for view, markup and review. The software supports over 150 drawing and document formats, including those used in major office and CAD applications. The ForReview architecture provides easy integration into enterprise-wide document management systems, and its highly configurable user interface allows both non-technical users and demanding power users to adapt easily.
