New ForReview Web
Plug-In with Exclusive "Redacting" Laguna Hills, CA. July 21, 1998. Allegria Software has launched its ForReview Web Plug-In for both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. This view-only plug-in brings many of the sophisticated features of ForReview for Windows and ForReview for UNIX into the browser market. The ForReview Web Plug-In has the same graphical engine as Allegria's ForReview Professional for Windows. Consequently, it supports all the graphical file formats and views markups the same way as ForReview Professional, including its exclusive layer markup management. The plug-in also utilizes vector overlay and raster compare features that can access files both locally and from the Internet. The most exciting new feature the plug-in introduces is "redacting" or the ability to "whiteout" information for security purposes. By using ForReview's markup paradigm, an author can create markup layers to hide information from users on the web. Instead of wasting time and resources creating additional copies of a document, redacting seamlessly covers confidential data or company information that should not be transmitted to suppliers or consultants. According to Robert Bruns, Allegria's President, "Our plug-in is a natural extension of ForReview on the desktop. The redacting feature is very innovative and can be used in many applications—from legal to engineering. The process of `whiting out' information has always been difficult in electronic viewing and, until now, creates document management problems like having to create multiple base documents to effectively hide confidential information. ForReview now provides a quick and efficient solution to redact documents." Key Feature/Benefit List of the ForReview Web Plug-In: Zoom, pan, flip, rotation and overview window: Most of ForReview's simple and intuitive viewing technology is available in the plug-in. Multiple views, layers and pictures support: Intelligent viewing of DWG, DXF, DGN, CGM, HP-GL, HP-GL/2 and TIFF are provided. Multiple views and layers are supported for CAD formats that contain them. Also, multi-page files can be viewed easily. Overlay and raster compare from URL/FTP/Local file: Now perform both overlay and raster compare files over the web. For raster files, load two file revisions, click and ask to see the differences between the two. Use the overlay function to combine vector files. Access files from URL or FTP addresses, as well as from a local drive or network. Markup viewing from URL/FTP/Local file: View markup files with the plug-in, accessed from an URL or FTP address as well as from a local drive or network. Users can have multiple markup files and can turn each individual markup layer on and off (except the redact layer). Load markup file(s) with the source file simultaneously from URL: For implementing the redact feature, the plug-in will simultaneously load the source file and default markup files. If a default markup file contains redact information, it can not be unloaded. Link to ForReview desktop for creating markups: If users have ForReview Professional on their desktop, a simple click of a button from the plug-in will allow users to create markups. Print: Send either the current view or the complete drawing to a printer or file, with or without markups. File formats supported in this release:
