And Unigraphics Deliver
Windows-based Version of
UG/RemarX
View and Markup Software
Laguna Hills, CA (May 13, 1996). Allegria Software and EDS Unigraphics have jointly announced the immediate availability of UG/RemarX/PC which enables users of Microsoft Windows to easily view and redline Unigraphics CAD files.
"Allegria has been an active partner with EDS for more than four years," says David M. Ochser, product marketing manager, EDS Unigraphics, "providing view and markup capabilities for our UG/RemarX line of UNIX workstation-based offerings. Now, UG/RemarX is also available for PC users, supporting the ability to view over 100 different file formats directly in the MS Windows environment without the need for X emulation."
Allegria's President, Robert Bruns, notes, "UG/RemarX/PC enables Unigraphics' corporate customers to extend the value of their existing PC installed base and at the same time expand their ability to communicate CAD data. Users throughout an enterprise can now easily contribute to the design process without the company incurring the expense of deploying full CAD workstations for everyone."
In addition to allowing the viewing of more than 100 file formats, UG/RemarX/PC includes a UNIX module that enables UG users to generate temporary CGM files from UG drawings, just as the UG/RemarX workstation products do today. Users can transfer these CGM files to their PCs, using standard TCP/IP software. On the PC, the CGM files can be viewed and various mark-ups can be added, such as graphics, text, and even scrolling notes. The mark ups can then be transferred between PC users and/or returned to workstation-based UG users for viewing.
Building off of the flexible architecture in Allegria's popular ForReview for Windows product, UG/RemarX/PC gives the user full access to the Unigraphics-based CGM file and provides the user with drawing controls for directly manipulating the view. In order to easily tailor the view and markup capabilities to the varying needs of different enterprise users, UG/RemarX/PC also allows the system administrator to customize the menu system, toolbars, application layouts, etc. thus creating user-specific configurations that can be either locked in or set up as default settings.
