Allegria Software Announces ForReview for Matrix and New Version of ForReview for Documentum

Laguna Hills, CA (October 18, 1996). Allegria Software has just announced the availability of two new powerful PDM-integrations combining Matrix and Documentum with Allegria's industry-leading view and mark-up software, ForReview for Windows. ForReview’s Application Programming Interface (API) allows this powerful stand-alone package to run seamlessly with any existing document management system. Both ForReview for Matrix and ForReview for Documentum make use of these built-in API functions and options, allowing maximum configuration flexibility.

According to Bob Bruns, President of Allegria, “These new integrations with Matrix and Documentum, along with our other existing PDM partners, are quickly establishing ForReview as the premier viewing and mark-up solution for enterprise-wide deployment. In today’s world, users and system administrators can’t afford to struggle with a number of separate, mutually-exclusive methods for accessing their documents. ForReview not only provides a rich set of over 150 drawing and document formats, it is designed from the bottom up to easily mesh as a key component within the enterprise’s existing systems.

ForReview for Matrix is designed using Matrix’s object oriented paradigm and provides pre-defined policy, relationship, format, type and program objects. The mark-up type object is also derived from Matrix’s pre-defined annotation type object. Using ForReview, methods become available in Matrix to easily view, mark-up, list and print groups or individual documents by selecting the corresponding object. While in ForReview, the end user can easily create a Matrix business object to store documents and annotations, and by clicking on these business objects in Matrix, the user can view and mark-up all the contained documents and the related annotations, together or selectively .

In the first week of October, Allegria was invited as the only third party integrator for ADRA’s PDM solution, Matrix, at their International Customer Conference in Orlando, Florida. Allegria was invited as a guest speaker to demonstrate the ForReview for Matrix view and mark-up integration. The integration was very well received and appreciated by both ADRA and the Matrix end-user.

The new version of ForReview for Documentum allows Documentum users to quickly and easily load documents directly to ForReview through the use of Documentum’s powerful search and select facilities. Users are allowed to view, mark-up, import, list and print a file in Documentum by selecting the corresponding menu item, or by simply double-clicking on the document itself. This action will then automatically launch ForReview for Documentum.

Both of these new PDM-integration versions of ForReview protect all original documents by not allowing them to be edited in any way. All redlining is always performed on user defined layers, and saved in a separate file called a “mark-up” file. While allowing extensive mark-up and layer management, ForReview automatically creates the relationship between mark-up files and their corresponding base document in the PDM database. ForReview automatically checks in and out the base documents and mark-ups to and from the PDM database. This allows the user to quickly find and access related mark-ups when querying about any file stored in Matrix or Documentum.

With its range of product offerings, the ForReview family can satisfy almost any requirement. The products support over 150 drawing and document formats, including those used by major office and CAD applications. The ForReview architecture allows for easy integration into enterprise-wide document management systems. In addition to the new Matrix and Documentum offerings, many other ForReview “off-the-shelf” PDM-integrations are already available, such as with SDRC’s Metaphase, HP’s WorkManager, Autodesk’s WorkCenter, and DOCS OPEN’s PC DOCS. ForReview’s highly configurable user interface adapts easily for both non-technical users and demanding power-users. This allows an enterprise to easily use one single view and mark-up product to satisfy the diverse needs of all its departments and users.

Allegria Software (formerly the ForWare division of Advanced Technology Center) is genuinely committed to providing true enterprise-wide solutions that can stand firmly on their own, or assist in making any document/data management system complete.
