FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laguna Hills, CA. Sept. 2, 1997. Allegria Software proudly announces the release of ForReview 3.3, along with the release of the new exciting 3D Solid Model option. ForReview 3.3 is by far the most powerful view and mark-up software available, and coupled with the 3D Solid Model option, there is nothing that ForReview 3.3 can't handle. Already being the industry-leading view and mark-up software, the additional new features of ForReview 3.3 provide an even more complete and robust, enterprise-oriented view and mark-up solution. ForReview 3.3 combines a uniquely rich and configurable user interface with support for leading CAD systems, file formats, and document management systems. ForReview 3.3 is designed to allow users to access, review, mark-up, and print documents throughout a heterogeneous computing environment, without the expense and support hassles of deploying the originating applications to every desktop.
The new key features in ForReview 3.3 include: Optional support for 3D models (STL); Overlay and compare features; Support for HPGL/2, Calcomp, Formtek, ASCII and Hybrid formats; Automatic file detection; A mark-up locator; Watermarking; New API's; "Out-of-box" integrations with leading EDM/PDM systems, and the option for full access to ForReview for Windows from within UNIX environments via WinCenter Pro software. Below is a brief description of each of the new features.
Optional support for 3D models: ForReview 3.3 now offers a 3D Solid Model option that provides full support for Stereolithography (STL) file formats. With this option, you can easily view, mark-up and print 3D solid models. The 3D Solid Model option also provides additional controls that allow you to easily:
· Rotate the model (both interactively and with predetermined views)
· Zoom in and out of the model
· Change the light source
· Change the model color
· Toggle between wireframe and solid
· Locate and find the coordinates of any point on the model
· Measure the distance between two points on the model
The 3D Solid Model option also includes an Object Info dialog that provides additional information such as the min./max. coordinates of the object's "bounding box", its center of gravity, surface, and the volume of the object.
Overlay and Compare: ForReview 3.3 has added a new Overlay feature that allows you to overlay any vector or raster file combination. When you open a drawing as an overlay, a new Overlaid Foreground Settings dialog will automatically be displayed, providing various controls that allow you to manipulate the position and size of the foreground drawing.
The Overlay Drawing option is very useful when placing a drawing on top of a border or title page (containing company information, border lines, a title block and such). Using an option provided by the Overlaid Foreground Settings dialog, you can then save these two files as a hybrid file. Additional "Raster Compare" controls have also been added, allowing you to see the similarities and differences between any two raster files.
Support for HPGL/2, Calcomp, Formtek and Hybrid formats: ForReview 3.3 has added strong HPGL/2 support along with its HPGL support, as well as support for Calcomp, Formtek, ASCII and Hybrid (GTX, Softdesk, ForReview) files.
Automatic file detection: ForReview 3.3 no longer requires the three letter file extension to identify the file format. It now has the ability to detect the file type automatically and allows companies to create their own unique file extensions. ForReview will automatically determine what kind of file it is and then open it when it is accessed for view.
Easy mark-up locator: ForReview 3.3 now shows the text "+Markup" in the Drawing Control dialog next to any defined view or picture in a file that contains multiple views or pictures that have an associated mark-up. This feature makes it very easy for the user to identify where any and all the mark-ups are located.
Watermarking: ForReview 3.3 has added watermarking capabilities to printed files. This allows the user to easily watermark a document with text such as "Confidential", "Draft", "Release", or copyright information.
New API's: ForReview 3.3 has added several new API's, including Automatic Watermarking, File Overlay, Open Multiple Document and Print Multiple Document. Also, "C" Language API's have been added which, unlike regular API's, have the ability to return values. These new "C" API types can perform functions such as returning file information and providing the ability to easily "traverse" through multiple picture files.
Special "out-of-box" integrations with EDM/PDM systems: ForReview 3.3 expands upon Allegria's strong partnerships with leading EDM/PDM system vendors by simultaneously releasing a full range of "out-of-box" integrated versions for ForReview 3.3 that are optimized for specific EDM/PDM systems. These optimized integrated versions include Documentum, Metaphase , WorkCenter, Matrix and DOCS OPEN.
Accessing ForReview from UNIX via WinCenter Pro software: WinCenter Pro provides a seamless integration between Windows and UNIX which enables ForReview 3.3 or any other Windows 95/NT/3.1 application, including the EDM/PDM systems that ForReview is integrated with, to be accessed from within any standard UNIX environment. Utilizing WinCenter Pro enables ForReview to become an even more complete enterprise solution by extending its feature-rich Windows-based view and mark-up capability to UNIX users without requiring the deployment of additional software on the UNIX platforms. (WinCenter Pro is distributed by GRAL, Inc. as noted later in this document.)
Of course, many enhancements to the existing product have also been made. Some of these enhancements include improved "Save As" results, a new menu item toggle that allows you to support long file names, and new mark-up capabilities for ASCII files.
With the addition of version 3.3, Allegria's ForReview product family continues to satisfy almost any user requirement for view and mark-up. The products support over 150 drawing and document formats, including those used by major office and CAD applications. The ForReview architecture allows for easy integration into enterprise-wide document management systems. ForReview's highly configurable user interface also adapts easily for both non-technical users and demanding power-users. This allows an enterprise to easily deploy ForReview as the single view and mark-up solution required to satisfy the diverse needs of all its departments and users.
As a division of GRAL Inc., Allegria Software is genuinely committed to providing a full range of enterprise-wide solutions that stand firmly on their own or can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of any existing document/data management system. Other products in the GRAL Inc. family include: gralXconvert and gralXnetPlot for file conversion and plotter management; WinCenter Pro software for accessing Windows applications from UNIX environments; and Explora hardware platforms for the deployment of cost-effective cross-platform, network computing solutions.
